After a rough 1-3 start to the season, Brunswick School bounced back with a win streak which has now extended to ten consecutive games. On May 7, the Bruins defeated Connecticut rival, Avon Old Farms 13-7 in what coach David Bruce called their “most complete game so far.”
Brunswick School, ranked 30th in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings and 5th in Connecticut, has registered some big wins in its win streak, including an 11-4 victory over Taft School, ranked 24th nationally and 3rd in Connecticut.
Avon Old Farms was on an impressive streak before Brunswick stepped in the way. The Winged Beavers won 12 straight games after dropping their opener to Landon back in March, putting them in 39th in the nation rankings and 6th in the state.
The game looked pretty even through the first. The Bruins ended the quarter with two late goals to take a 3-2 advantage after traveling earlier on. Brunswick brought that momentum into the second quarter, breaking out to a 9-4 lead by the half.
Both offenses slowed down in the second half. Brunswick managed to net 4 goals while Avon put in three, leading to the games finally score of 13-7.
Sophomore Reilly Walsh led the way for the Bruins, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists. Junior attackmen Jack Knight and Marshall Dickson, and senior midfielder Cam Stafford all added on three goals each. Senior goalie Tommy Heidt made 12 saves in the contest.
Winning by a six-goal margin, Brunswick moves up to 11-3 on a 10-game win streak. The Bruins look to continue their streak through the remaining four games of the regular season and into the playoffs. Brunswick’s next opponent is Salisbury School and May 9.
